What is the North Suffolk Skills Centre?

The North Suffolks Skills Centre is a new state-of-the-art, purpose built facility in Halesworth where learners aged 14+ are given exciting opportunities to develop new skills in a range of specialisms including: engineering, hairdressing, automotive engineering, catering, health & social care and the construction trades.

The new facility will be used by five educational partners (Bungay High School, Leiston High School, Sir John Leman High School, Stradbroke High School and Lowestoft College) who have come together to
form 'The North Suffolk Partnership.' It is also the intention of the Partnership that the new Centre will be actively promoted and marketed to community users and interest groups for use beyond the school day.

The new building is semi-industrial in terms of its look and feel and offers a different learning environment to the more conventional school layout.

The investment of over £2.4 million was nade by EEDA, ESF, ERDF, LSC, Barclays Bank, LJ Create and the project partners. If offers local communities the very best in learning opportunities in our region.

The NSSC opened in September 2007 and now delivers programmes targetted at 14-16 learners in addition to courses for post-16 learners. From September 2008 the NSSC will deliver the new engineering diploma as one of its suite of qualifications.

The North Suffolk Partnershop will work together to deliver high quality learning and teaching opportunities in order to meet the needs and aspirations of individuals, families and the communities it serves.

They do this by developing the three C's:

  • CHANCES - for all students to achieve, through a broad range of progressive qualifications.
  • CHOICES - individualised learning pathways established for all students.
  • COLLABORATION - providing maximum access to local resources through the partnership.
