IMIAL level 1 Qualifications in Vehicle Maintenance (QCF).
These qualifications are primarily designed to engage and motivate 14-19 year olds who are interested in learning about the maintenance of motor vehicles and the various roles that are available in the retail motor industry. The qualifications’ combination of units provides learners with the flexibility of choice.
The qualifications have a practical approach to assessment and include many visual questioning techniques, which will stimulate and interest the learner.

This Award is ideal for those learners who wish to undertake a qualification which provides a stepping stone to the IMIAL Level 1 Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance. The Award is currently suitable as the vocational subject-based learning component of Foundation Learning.

This Certificate is ideal for those learners who wish to undertake a qualification which will support their progress to a Foundation (Level 1) or Higher (Level 2) Diploma. It can also supplement their progress to GCSEs and other appropriate destinations, such as apprenticeships and employment. The Certificate is currently suitable as the vocational subject-based learning component of Foundation Learning.

This level 1 qualification covers the basic technical needs for today’s motor vehicle repair industry. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.
It is a learning programme which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following:
• Light Vehicle Construction and Routine Maintenance
• Operating Principles of Light Vehicle Engines, Tyres, Brakes, Steering and Suspension Systems
• Operating Principles and Maintenance of Light Vehicle Transmission Systems and Electrical and Electronic Systems
Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.
The student’s knowledge is assessed by IMI Awards set practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment, IMI Awards set ‘on-line’ multiple-choice testing and by assessments set by the student’s centre.topics to cover
possible careers/progression
Two years part time at the North Suffolk Skills Centre and continue on at college to complete level 2. Work in the motor trade and go on to an apprenticeship where you can take an NVQ level 2.
