Is this the right course for me?

This is a professional course in hairdressing for Post 16 learners who wish to train for a new career or gain new skills and interests. You should have an interest in people and have good communication skills.

What will I need to join the course?

Although there are no formal entry requirements you will need an interview. A personal reference will also be requested. If you have a Hairdressing Level 1 Certificate it would be beneficial to you to bring it along to the interview. Enthusiasm, dedication, a mature attitude and a satisfactory grasp of the English language are a prerequisite of the course. Most importantly, a genuine desire to pursue a career in Hairdressing. 

What will I be doing?

The course is for 1 year where you will be covering the following subjects:

  • Unit G20 Ensure your actions reduce risks to Health and Safety
  • Unit G4 Fulfill salon reception duties
  • Unit G7 Advise and consult with clients
  • Unit G17 Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Unit GH8 Shampoo and condition hair and scalp
  • Unit GH9 Change hair colour
  • Unit GH10 Style & finish hair using basic techniques
  • Unit GH11 Set and Dress Hair
  • Unit GH12 Cut hair using basic techniques
ALSO
  • Level 2 Certificate in Customer Service
All practical sessions after initial training are client based where the North Suffolk Skills Centre Salon becomes a working environment.

How long will the course last & what patterns of attenance are available?

The course lasts for 1 year, over four days per week. Times will change through the year due to course requirements, but will start at the same times each session. These days are subject to change.

What will I achieve?

NVQ Level II Hairdressing VTCT - (Vocational Training Charitable Trust) Qualification.
Level 2 Certificate in Customer Service.


How will my progress on the course be assessed?
Throughout the course you will be assessed by observation of practical skills, written tests, oral questions and assignments.

Both the Hairdressing kit and uniform must be purchased BEFORE the course commences.

And the future?
Level III and IV Advanced Hairdressing qualification.
