City & Guilds Literacy Qualification


IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?

This course is for anyone interested in finding more out about computers.

WHAT WILL I NEED TO JOIN THE COURSE?
The course requires some previous knowledge of using a computer, word processing and the Internet.

This FREE course enables people to make the best use of their creative abilities using Microsoft Word, Publisher and PowerPoint. It is aimed at everyone regardless of status, education, age, ability or understanding.  The main benefits of this course are:

  • It is a fun, informal and uncomplicated introduction to creative computing, using Microsoft Office 2007 Word, Publisher and PowerPoint
  • It is designed to build confidence and provide a basis to encourage further exploration of photo editing and creative computing

As part of the Skills for Life strategy, this programme will also consider Literacy throughout the course. It will give learners the opportunity to improve or refresh their Literacy skills in order to succeed in other qualifications, or in life and at work. A compulsory part of this course is an online multi-choice Literacy exam.

HOW LONG WILL THE COURSE LAST AND WHAT PATTERNS OF ATTENDANE ARE AVAILABLE?
One session per week for 12 weeks, on Thursdays from 2pm - 4pm, starting September 2011.

HOW WILL MY PROGRESS BE ASSESSED?
The course is assessed by a range of informal methods.

WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?
Students will receive a College certificate and a City & Guilds Literacy qualification.

WHAT WILL IT COST?
The cost for the course is FREE.

The course requires no previous knowledge of computing as it will begin at the ‘switching on’ stage.

This FREE course is specially developed to cater for those with little or no experience of computers, Internet and Email. It is aimed at complete beginners and is open to everyone regardless of status, education, age, ability or understanding.  The main benefits of this course are:

  • It is a fun, informal and uncomplicated introduction to computers, the Internet and Email for complete beginners.
  • It is designed to build confidence and provide a basis to encourage further exploration and development of computers, the Internet and Email skills.
