The North Suffolk Association of the Elderly visit the North Suffolk Skills Centre for Afternoon Tea
On Friday 20th May the Catering Students at the North Suffolk Skills Centre based in Halesworth hosted ‘Afternoon Tea’ to the North Suffolk Association for the Elderly. The Year 11 students from Bungay High School, Sir John Leman High School, Leiston High School and Stradbroke Enterprise College invited the association in and prepared afternoon tea. The group served a selection of sausage rolls, sandwiches and assorted cakes that were all made by the students.
Dr Jean Macheath stated that the North Suffolk Association of the Elderly (NSAFE) is a voluntary local charity that provides advice, advocacy and information. The support can involve assistance with forms, sorting bills etc, undertaking lunches and day trips. Dr Macheath stated that the group of 11 had a ‘fabulous afternoon, being served teas by the students and everyone enjoyed the day ‘ – with the event becoming a permanent fixture.
The students have now completed their NVQ Level 1 qualification in Food Preparation and Cooking which prepares them to work in the catering industry or stay on at the NSSC to study a Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery starting September. The course is open to anybody over the age of 16. Well done to the students on their hard work and professionalism.
